Wilderness EMT upgrade course

Written by

Over the past few months I have been trying to bring a Wilderness EMT course to Winnipeg. Finally with the help of Neil McDonald it is on its way!

As Neil is a former student of the course I will quote him "it revisits pre-hospital care from the perspective of a remote context, addressing extreme weather, long transport times, and adapted or improvised equipment. It features a heavy emphasis on useful field assessments and treatments, drills and realistic simulations, and students come away with a range of practical curriculum material. It's being hosted by Wilderness Supply and run by Wilderness Medical Associates, an international training company with dedicated Canadian offices that teaches throughout North America and overseas. I'll be helping out with the course, but it will be led by a CCP-flight from Ontario who works with ORNGE and coordinates the ACP program at Fanshawe College in London."

Boston Pizza – Tip-your-Paramedic fundraiser – On February 2, at nine Boston Pizza locations in Winnipeg, as well as the Selkirk and Portage la Prairie locations, Paramedics will serve as volunteers during the 11:00am - 2:00pm lunch shift, and 5:00pm - 8:00pm dinner shift. All tips they receive will be donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in support of Heart Month.

Heart Month is here. Help make death wait.

Season's Greetings Everybody!

I hope everyone had a Great Christmas!

With the New Year quickly approaching, it is a great time to kick-start GlobalMedic – Manitoba!

The response I received for GlobalMedic was nothing short of amazing, I have received interest from over 80 Paramedics from across the province. If there are people you think would be interested, please pass along this information.

I have had a lot of people asking me, what happens next? In an effort to get things moving, I will be holding two GlobalMedic information sessions early in the New Year. These sessions are to provide the group with information as well as start to lay the ground work as to where do we go from here.
